future.africa is a community in conversation about the future. It’s a place where ideas thrive. Our goal is to provide a platform for you to share your vision of what the future of Africa should look like.
We’re interested in pieces that are thought-provoking and push the conversation about the future of Africa forward. We seek pieces that contain unique ideas and propose solutions for the problems that we face.
We want to publish stories that will stand the test of time, lay the foundation for innovation and fulfill our mission of building a future that works for all Africans. All perspectives are welcome, but before you send us a piece, please read the guidelines below.
1. Make your article as simple as possible. We want everyone to be involved in this conversation about our future, not just intellectuals. We appreciate complex ideas, but please express your ideas in the simplest way possible. Imagine you’re writing to an audience that has never heard about your ideas.
Here are some examples of the type of writing we’re looking for

2. Submissions must be original and no more than 2000 words.
3. Send your stories to editor@future.africa. Include the phrase ‘Article Pitch’ in the subject line of your message, along with the title of your piece.
4. You can submit complete articles or send us an article pitch before you start writing. Your pitch should contain a few lines explaining your idea. If we think your idea has promise, we may make suggestions for how you can write it to improve its odds of being published.
5. Articles you submit should be your work. We believe in transparency, so we do not accept ghostwritten articles. However, you can choose to publish anonymously.
6. We do not accept articles that have already been published on other platforms.
7. Once we’ve published your article on future.africa, we ask that it remains on future.africa and you don’t publish it elsewhere for one month after the publishing date.
8 We want stories that are carefully structured, well punctuated and have proper grammar. We suggest you edit your work with Grammarly and Hemingway App, prior to submitting your piece.
9. Our editor will work with you to bring the best out of your work and make sure it’s the right tone and quality for future.africa. We have the final say on headlines, though we will try to make sure you’re comfortable with the headline.
10. We receive a lot of pitches and aren’t able to respond to each individual message. If we’re interested in publishing your piece, we’ll be in touch.
